Thanks to Ladugarden for making this nifty cool looking layout for the page! :D

Also, if you haven't read her comic, please do!
Magical girls around and it's just a pure delight to read. :D

It's over here, Spectraspell!

If you put http:// in front of the link, it'll auto-link :D (you might want to also put a space between the URL and the exclamation mark, so that it's not aprsed as part of the link. Alternatively, you can use HTML in Author comments to make a custom link: <a href="http://spectraspell.smackjeeves.com">It's over here!</a>

Spectraspell definitely deserves a read, it's a great comic <3

This is one snazzy layout! I wish the comments weren't auto-hidden though. Makes it a hassle to read them, and it makes them easy to miss, which in turn is likely to discourage future comments.

@eishiya: Oh, yeah! I didn't think of it!

I just wanted a clean layout, most people comment via the mobile app so I don't think it'll affect them that much?
But I might be wrong, it's just a feeling I've had!

@NellyOnly: I don't think comments are dirty xP If anything, I think having a bunch of comments gives a more positive impression of the comic and its pages, even to those who don't read comments.

People who don't care about comments are most likely not going to scroll down at all past the page, and people who do want comments probably don't want to click (or might not even notice and just think there are no comments).

It looks like comment reply indentation is a little broken in your comments o: Only the avatar is indented, rather than the whole comment, so it makes it look like the rest of the comment is someone else's comment. The extra padding should probably be on .comment.reply, not on .comment.reply .avatar.

@eishiya: Never said they were dirty ;)
What I meant with "clean" is that I sometimes find comments to be distracting from the reader experience.
(I often find myself reading the comments instead of the comic and then I forget about what the comic was about and has to re-read it)

If people want to comment, they will find a way to do so. I don't really see it much of a problem whether or not it's visible? I do get your point however, but I think I'll leave it be for now!

The layout is still under construction, however I'm not the one who made it!
(ladugard did, she asked me if I wanted similar to hers and I said yes xD)
But I can ask her about the reply-section, if she hasn't already noticed it. :D

EDit: OMG I'm SO SORRY FOR COMING OFF AS PASSIVE AGRESSIVE D:
I'm not, I value your advice a whole lot, it's just that I can't do much with this as I'm terrible with the div ID/class (I only know some html, the basic stuff like linking and image posting xD) and I've already asked my friend for a lot of changes and I'd feel so horrible for asking for more xDD </3

@NellyOnly: The "dirty" thing was a joke xP

I usually don't scroll down for the comments when I'm binge-reading, but I can see how they can be a distraction. I wonder though, if just avoiding distraction is the goal, why not just put more space between them and the author comment, so they're less likely to end up on a reader's screen unless they actively want them?

The issue I have with the show/hide button isn't that it's more work for the reader, but that it's unexpected work. People are used to scrolling down for more, but not to looking but a button to click for more.

It could be just me who finds it annoying though. Leave it as-is for a while, and see if the average comments per page go down or stay the same (adjusted for overall reader numbers). If they stay the same, then there's no problem (either because everyone's on mobile, or because they don't mind the button).

@eishiya: OOH! Oh gosh, I didn't get it at all xD I'm sorry xD

I read comics on an eyelevel, so I always scroll comics instead of bobbing my head up and down (and sometimes, some comics doesn't fit the page so you'll have to scroll D: And there's where I find the comment-issue xD)

I was planning on that, if enough people think it's a bit of a hassle, then I'll ask for a change (but it seems to be working on their comic really well so we'll see!)

I'm reading a lot of comics on Tapastic, and they've got a button for "read more comments" so I guess I'm just very much used to find hiding/showing comments button and don't think much of it?
I guess it could depend on whether or not you're used to it?
eishiya February 17th, 2018, 9:14 am

@NellyOnly: I don't think it's the same thing at all to click a button to read more comments versus clicking a button to see any comments at all, psychologically.
Maybe that could be a nice compromise though? Have the show button toggle not visibility, but max-height on the comment container, so you can see the top few comments? Something like this: https://i.imgur.com/a4UmhqR.png
Using JavaScript, it could even be set to auto-show all the comments if there are fewer than some threshold, such as 3.
NellyOnly February 17th, 2018, 10:16 am

@eishiya: Ooh, I like that!
I'll have to think about it tho and maybe change it later :D
